Gov Inuwa support victims of Police Mobile Barracks inferno with N2.6m, relief materials

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has ordered the immediate completion of uncompleted structures to provide shelter for victims of the fire incident that ravaged a block of building at the 34 Mobile Police Barracks Kwami, Gombe State.

The Governor who was represented by a high powered delegation led by the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Manasseh Daniel Jatau, during an visit also donated the sum of N2.6m cash and relief materials to cushion the devastation of the fire incident on the victims.

Presenting the donations to the 26 affected families whose properties were completely destroyed by the inferno, the Deputy Governor lamented over the devastating effect of the fire especially at a time of economic hardship.

Dr. Jatau said Governor Yahaya and the entire administration felt deeply touched by the unfortunate incident and has directed the delegation to identify with the victims by visiting them and bringing relief materials as immediate succour before other interventions come their way.

The Deputy Governor directed the Commissioner of Works to mobilize his men to assess and quantify the ongoing structures for completion since the debris of the C-block gutted by fire can hardly be used for habitation.

He presented the cash donation and listed the relief items to include 75 pieces of nylon mats, 100 pieces of mosquito nets, 50 mattresses, and 100 blankets.

Other items are buckets, stoves and cooking pots each numbering 26 pieces, 52 wrappers, 52 Guinea brocades, 50 pieces each of children male and female wears as well as 100 kg of 26 bags of maize and 10 cartons of bathing soap.

The State Police Commissioner, Hayatu Usman, appreciated the concern shown them by the State Government and the immediate communities for their assistance. He said the intervention will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the victims.

Earlier, while taking the Deputy Governor round, the Commanding Officer, Unit 34, Police Mobile Force Gombe, ACP Kabiru Abubakar Randawa, said the ugly fire disaster had razed down a complete block housing 26 families leaving the victims homeless and helpless.

He said the victims have been taking refuge in their colleagues houses, the Barracks Mosque and Church adding that some spirited individuals and organizations have assisted the victims and appealed for more assistance from the general public.
