Ten people were confirmed dead and seven others injured in the early hours of Tuesday, December 12 Toyota Hiace bus marked FKY898YF, rammed into an Iveco Truck on Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

The accident occurred at about 05:00am and operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as well as Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) have rescued the victims that are alive and cleared the road obstructions created to redirect traffic.

The Ogun State FRSC Public Education Officer for the Sector Commander and Chief Route Commander, Florence Okpe who confirmed the incident on behalf of the Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, said the injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital for medical attention while the remains of the dead were deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu.

Okpe attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speed which led to loss of control and culminating in the bus ramming into the tipper that was about negotiate a turning.

She explained that a total of 18 male adults were involved, stressing seven male adults were injured while ten male adults were recorded dead from the crash.

She also quoted the sector commander, Anthony Uga as being pained over the fatal crash that could have been avoided if necessary caution was put in place.

According to her, Uga emphasized that drivers should endeavour to take a 15 minutes rest for every four (4) hours drive as fatigue has been discovered to be a major cause of road traffic crash especially in this yuletide when drivers are in a hurry to make more money.
