…for not escaping during jail break

Abba Kyari, the suspended head of the Nigeria Police Response Team (IRT), has been granted bail by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kyari had been behind bar for 18 months after being taken into custody in February 2022 on allegations of tampering with drug exhibits.

The case took a dramatic turn when Kyari and some members of his team were declared wanted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for tampering with evidence.

After several attempts to secure bail, Kyari was granted bail based on the judge’s ruling that he is not a flight risk and that all the allegations against him are bailable.

He ruled that for the fact that DCP Abba Kyari and his team refused to escape when Kuje Prison was attacked on July 5, 2022, where about 90 percent of the inmates escaped, “it has proven that Kyari is ready to face any allegations against him.”

This decision has been hailed as a victory by his defense team.
