Taraba state governor Agbu Kefas has taken action in response to the challenges facing the state university.

After conducting an unscheduled visit to the institution, the governor  ordered the immediate reduction of school fees by fifty per cent. This decision comes in light of the devastating effects of subsidy removal by the federal government, which has made it difficult for some students to afford their fees.

During his visit, Kefas discovered several concerning issues at the university. Firstly, he identified that 53 courses offered by the institution do not have accreditation, raising questions about the quality of education being provided.

Additionally, the governor observed a significant increase in school fees and poor conditions in the student hostels.

In light of these findings, Kefas has also mandated a report on why some graduates of the university are not pursuing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or attending law school.

This evaluation aims to understand any underlying issues preventing students from taking these necessary next steps in their education and careers.

By taking these actions, Governor Kefas hopes to address the immediate financial challenges faced by students while also addressing the broader issues affecting the quality of education at the state university.
