A 25-year-old hair stylist, Tomisin Odusanya, has been remanded by an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly attempting to kill his mother, Mrs. Abbey Lizzy, over her refusal to cook for him.

He was also charged with assaulting a police officer on duty.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Musa Al-Yunus, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge of assault, attempted murder, and causing a breach of peace.

According to the prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin, the defendant committed the offence on May 13, 2023, at 8:30pm at Third gate Oba- Afunbiowo Estate and at the ‘B’ Division Police Station, Oke-Aro.

Odusanya allegedly assaulted his mother by biting her all over the body and threatening to kill her.

At the ‘B’ Division Police Station, the defendant also conducted himself in a disorderly and indecent manner when the Divisional Police Officer was conducting cell state.

He allegedly assaulted officer PC Gbenga Falana with force No: 515988 attached to the station with the intent to resist and prevent his lawful detention.

The offences allegedly committed by the defendant contravene the provisions of Sections 355, 86(i), 244(a), and 356(i) of the Criminal Laws of Ondo State, 2015.

During the court proceedings, the complainant (Mother) stated that the defendant, her son, had a longstanding history of violent behavior and had frequently made threats against her.

The court ultimately granted the defendant bail, requiring two sureties in the sum of N300,000, with one of the sureties being the defendant’s father.

The case was adjourned until May 28, 2023, for trial.

However, due to the defendant’s inability to meet the bail requirements, he was remanded at the Olokuta Correctional center.
