…I don’t owe you anything, Tinubu Responds
The Governor of Rivers state , Nyesom Wike during the Commissioning of the Rumuokwuta Flyover by the President elect , Bola Tinubu asked the incoming President for a refund for the federal projects embarked upon by the Rivers state government.
In his remarks, Wike, thanked the president elect , Bola Tinubu for honouring his invitation and making Rivers state the first state he visited since winning his election.
Governor Wike added that all the federal road projects carried out by the state government, should be repaid by the federal government.
He urged Bola Tinubu to take his request into consideration when he becomes the President .
Wike said the Flyover is the 12th flyover to be constructed by the Rivers state government since 2019.
“These flyovers you see are meant to be federal roads. They are Supposed to be constructed by the federal government”
Wike said, because the Federal government couldn’t do it ,the state government decided to do it.
“If we wait for the federal government to do it, our people will suffer while waiting ”
“A good federal government is supposed to give us a refund” he said
Wike said when the Federal government can’t fund a project, the state government can assist in a way of partnership.
After completion of project the federal government can ask for a bill from the state government for payment.
“Doing this will encourage other states to emulate the partnership and it becomes a win , win situation for both the state and federal government” he added
The president elect, Bola Tinubu in response to Wike said, “I don’t owe you anything, the road will be used by you”
Tinubu jokingly asked Wike to lobby him to get a refund.
Tinubu thanked Wike for his remarkabke support during the presidential election.
“I thank Wike for the support in my election in February 25.
“Wike is a principled man. He demanded that power shifts to the south and he stood by it. For that I am grateful”
