It was a bleak good Friday in the Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Nyiev Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
No fewer than 34 people were killed when Gunmen stormed the camp located at LGEA Primary School Mgban.
The gunmen, according to reports, attacked the community around 9pm.
NewsSpecng gathered that a pregnant woman and her son were among those killed in the Friday night attack.
The incident was also confirmed by the Security Adviser of Guma local government council, Christopher Waku.
He said over 40 others were injured.
Waku said, “We recovered 24 corpses inside the classroom while the remaining 10 bodies were picked up along the road in the community. They were killed while running away.
“It happened yesterday (Friday), about a few minutes after 9pm. Some armed men suspected to be herders came and attacked the community called Mgban; killed 34 persons while over 40 were severely injured and have been taken to the hospital. This killing can best be described as genocide.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Benue Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, also confirmed, though no official reaction yet.
