Yusuf Kabir of NNPP has been declared winner of the Kano state gubernatorial elections after polling 1,019,602 votes to defeat his closest contender, Nasir Gawuna of the APC who polled 890,705 votes.

It was a battle between two heavy weights, a battle of control over Kano state.

The two main contestants were backed by political gladiators in the state which boasts of high numerical voter strength. Kabir was backed by former Kano governor and NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso who has a major following in Kano with his socio-political movement known as the Kwankwasiyya and the incumbent, Abdullahi Ganduje who for years have been arch rivals.

After the declaration of the NNPP candidate as the winner , the state government moved swiftly to avert any form of violence by declaring a dawn to dawn curfew in the state.

This was announced by the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Muhammad Garba, in a statement issued Monday morning.

According to Garba, the decision was to prevent any form of chaos by hoodlums in the aftermath of the elections.

Be urged every law abiding citizen remain indoors and also remain calm.
