Naira Scarcity: Banks Dishing out Dirty Notes To customers

Following the order by President Muhammadu Buhari that N200 notes remain a legal tender , banks began payment of N200 and other lower notes to customers.

NewsSpecng learnt that banks in Abuja began payment on Monday over the counter.

Last week, customers spent hours on the ATM queues to be able to get the new notes but since banks began to issue old notes, the queues at the ATM point began to reduce.

It was observed that each bank gave according to how they demed fit. UBA were seen giving N5000 with all N200 notes looking very dirty.

Some customers even rejected the mutilated and filty  notes.

Access bank paid it’s customers N3000 while in some branches , N5000, other banks paid N3000 in N50 notes.

One thing that was observed by NewsSpecng was the state of the currency. They were all dirty, tattered and mutilated.

On social media, a Nigerian man shared a photo showing the mutilated old N200 notes he received from his bank.

He shared photos and video with the caption…

‘’I just received this from the bank, they’re so bad and most of them are torn but half bread is better that none. We really need to do better in the way we handle our currency in this country.”

NewsSpecng correspondent also shared a picture of the mutilated N200 note.
