LASPG tells INEC: Deal with Us Directly, We are no longer Under NUTRW

Releated Post

Movement of materials and personnel for the 2023 general elections may be jeopardised in Lagos and other states where activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has been suspended.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with NURTW with the agreement that the union would be responsible for the transportation of personnel and materials to and from the polling units.

But, the Lagos State Parks and Garages Management (LASPG) told INEC that the MoU is not binding on it.

It therefore urged INEC to deal with them directly as it’s no longer under the NURTW.

This was conveyed in a letter addressed to the chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC by the LASPG.

The LASPG said states such as Lagos, Ogun, Ondo , Osun and some other states are not part of the NUTRW rather are under various state parks and garages.

The association said it was necessary to bring to the notice of the commission in  order for there not to be technical difficulties in terms of deployment and retrieval  of personnels,  logistics to and fro during the forthcoming general election  in the mentioned states.

In the letter , the association called on the commission to conduct an investigation into the matter addressed.

“We at Lagos State Parks and Garages, under the Chairmanship Alhaji (Dr.) Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya do hereby request that INEC should conduct an investigation into this information supplied”

It then requested that all transportation related arrangements in Lagos State be at their purview because the operation of NURTW in Lagos State had been suspended.
