ACCI laments hike inflationary trend

The Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has lamented  Dr. Al-Mujtaba Abubakar the continued spike in inflationary trends in the country.

Abubakar who spoke at the 32nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Abuja, decried the last few months trend, saying it has been worrisome for the association because of its direct impact on its members.

Dr. Abubakar also lamented the impact of the Ukraine-Russian war, saying that it continued to impact negatively on most economies of the World. Consequently, he said several countries have gone into recession.

 ACCI president also announced the joint planned bid for the hosting of  intra-Africa trade fair in 2025. 

According to him, ACCI joined the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) committee to lobby for Nigeria to host the 2025 Intra Africa Trade Fair (IATF).

He added, “The bid has been submitted to the IATF Organizing Committee recommending ACCI Trade Centre as the venue for the IATF. We await feedback from the AFREXIMBank through the Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment. We are quite hopeful that Nigeria will win the bid. 

“The management of the Federal Capital Territory fixed the roads within the ACCI Complex.The Abuja Enterprise Agency provided strong links and support for members through its one-stop-shop, NAFDAC assigned a desk officer for ACCI.

“The Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and investment and the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs continue to share trade mission opportunities and support travel facilitation for ACCI, and We are in the process of planning the 1st Africa Space Conference with the National Space Research and Development Agency NARSDA.

“Various meetings were held with the Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and investment centred on having a strong collaboration with investors from various countries, and on trade and investment missions. 

“Meetings were also held with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss the support of the Ministry in reaching out to Nigeria Missions in various countries to participate at the Halal Expo and trade fairs. 

“We plan to organise more sector specific events that will provide value to members and the business community and raise more income for the Chamber. We also are targeting strategic partnerships that will create access to market for our members and provide the opportunity for our members to benefit from local and international trade opportunities such as the AfCFTA. 

“We also plan to establish a better knowledge management system for the Chamber, which will leverage ICT systems to store and retrieve information and for process alignment.”

The event also included the induction of new members to the association and presentations by the Bank of Industry and Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
