A Nigerian singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist simply known as CEF has called on Nigerians to imbibe love, showcase identity and be responsible in their endeavour to make the country a better place.
CEF made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Abuja.
CEF who recently held a listening party for his EP titled “Jide Ofor” said his brand of music called Genti was influence by folklore, Ogene, Highlife, Afrobeat, Soul, Reggae and Jazz.
“Songs in the EP include ‘Ije Uwa’ featuring Nze Chidi Echefu, ‘Jeje’, ‘Animal Farm’ featuring Dike Chukwumerije, ‘Dikeke’, ‘Odo Yewu’, ‘Ebelebe’ and ‘Ekwe Kuo’ featuring Nze Chidi Echefu.
“Genti Music is a called on Nigerians and all listeners to show love, express original identity and be responsible; those are ingredients that makes a better society and nation at large.
” The music is a fusion of different styles, ideas and energy deeply rooted in native, especially Igbo sounds.
“Genti music is easy on the ear and heavy on the mind. The project touches on the theme of spirituality, power, love, society and responsibility. ‘Animal Farm’ speaks of the realities in Africa.
“As Nigerians, it is important for us represent our culture and still interact with the world. When you are deeply rooted culturally, you can be universal,” CEF said.
According to him, when you find your identity, you can can take it to the world, adding that the world is interested in our originality, ” so that is what the music is all about”.
CEF, who expressed his love for white attire said it was a mark of spiritual consciousness and reminding himself to be pure at any given time.
He explained that musicians are cultural curators, adding that they shape what people see and listen to.
On challenges, CEF said the body of work ‘Jide Ofor’ which master was produced by Emeka Onwumere was a collective responsibility and efforts that lead to overcoming the perceived challenges.
He stressed that there were some local instruments that are not in circulation and not been played, and that such instrument that defined part of our identity is lost.
“That is why we need to discover our identity to showcase our originality to the world. Genti music is on that path; Nigerians should also use Genti music to show love and responsibility to enhance a better society”.
CEF is also set to embark on tour to Lagos, Abuja and other states of the federation to promote the Genti music. (NAN)
