EWIP USA branch holds first meeting, demands women participation in politics

Evolving Women in Politics (EWIP) the United States of America (USA) branch, has held its first meeting in the USA and has called for adequate paricipation of women, especially in the Political arena of Nigerian politics for national development.

Mrs Hajia Fati Bello, President EWIP International, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, said EWIP is an NGO, aimed at seeking greater inclusion of Women and youth in Governance at all Levels in the country.

Bello said as the 2023 general elections draws nearer, the organisation would actively engage and support Women and Youhs to participate fully in the elections.

The statement said that, “I welcome you all to USA chapter first meeting. This is the beginning of a great Movement, let’s come together with one mind and voice to make Nigeria a better place, especially for women and youth.

“The main goal of this NGO is to see greater inclusion of Women and youth in Governance at all Levels especially in the Political arena in Nigeria. We believe in one simple goal that with togetherness and determination this can be achieved.

“Political activities are about to start prelude to the 2023 General Elections and we would be actively engaging and supporting Women and Yourhs to participate fully . Thank you you all again and we in EWIP are very glad for this great step of the inauguration of USA chapter,” she said.

Princess Olajumoke Akintunde JP, the USA EWIP Coordinator, said participation of more women in the running of affairs of the nation would encourage sound decision-making and national development of the country.

According to her, the organisation also seeks to mitigate violence against women, sensitisation of women on the need to participate in politics and the process of voting during elections.

“Thank you very much for attending our First Evolving Women in Politics get together, most especially to everyone who traveled near and far, who endured traveling inconveniences and those who couldn’t even make it.

“We love and appreciate each and every one of you. Special shot out to my sisters from Texas whose flights were cancelled and through that they persevered still made every effort to be here. We honor you ladies because you have shown us the resilience of EWIP,” she said.

However, Princess Akintunde, who thanked members that came from near and far to participate in the first meeting urged women to register and collect their PVCs and participate fully in the general elections come 2023.

Mrs Raliat Abdulsalam, Vice President of the organisation said EWIP is also an NGO to encourage women’s participation in politics, Policy making and educate women about their civic rights and duties against the ills of the society.

Abdulsalam said women should Love one another as it is a universal language that is spoken by all to overshadow ethnic and religious divide which has been the bane of politics and policy making in the country Nigeria. (NAN)
