Normalcy returns in Jos as youths protest Plateau killings

Releated Post

The Plateau State government on Wednesday said that the violent protest by aggrieved youths at Gada Biyu in Jos North Local Government has been brought under control following swift deployment of security agents.

Two trucks loaded with cows were burnt and many persons were injured during the incident on Tuesday night.

The irate youths reportedly obstructed traffic at the Gada Biyu axis in what was alleged to be a reprisal attack over the killings and burning of houses in Bassa and Riyom last Saturday by herders and native communities triggered by age-long land tussle.

Governor Simon Lalong, in a statement, signed by Simon Macham, his Director of Press and Public Affairs, assured the breach of peace has been put under control.

It reads partly: “The intervention of the security personnel immediately brought the situation under control as the youths were dispersed and the road cleared, thereby restoring traffic flow.

“With the return of normalcy around Gada Biyu and environs, the Government is urging citizens to avoid any act that could lead to the breakdown of law and order.”
