An Osogbo magistrates’ Court sitting on Friday remanded twin brothers, Olabode Kehinde, Olabode Taiwo and one other, Bakare Yusuf for allegedly gang-raping a teenager identified as Rukayat.
The three apprentices are facing six counts charges, bordering on conspiracy, rape, unlawful carnal knowledge, indecent assault, breach of peace and damage of reputation of the victim.
According to Police prosecutor, Inspector Temitope Fatoba the defendants sometimes in March 2021 at Oke-Abuja area of Iragbiji, Osun state conspired among themselves to commit rape the teenager
He added that the defendants with intent to cause annoyance, insult, injury, intimidation, enmity or needless anxiety to the victim, did intentionally post her nude pictures on social media after sexually assaulting her.
Olabode added that the defendant also acted in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace by posting the victim’s nude pictures on social media.
He said, the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under sections 516, 358, 360, 373, 375 of the state criminal law and section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, ETC) Act, 2015.
The three defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
Defence counsel, Okobe Najite in his oral bail application urges the court to admit the defendants to bail in the most liberal terms.
However, the police prosecutor opposed the application on the ground that the victim undergoing a medical check, adding that the case has become very rampant.
He added that the defendants had been on the run and took the extra effort from the police to track and arrest them, while two other suspects are still on the run.
The presiding magistrate, A.O Daramola ordered that the defendants should be remanded in Ilesa correctional center till August 16, 2021 to be mentioned at Iragbiji Magisterial District.
