Senate passes N895bn supplementary budget for second reading

The Senate on Wednesday passed for second reading the sum of N895,842,465,917.00 as Supplementary Budget for 2021.

President Muhammdu Buhari had on Tuesday transmitted the document to the National Assembly for consideration and approval.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan referred the Bill to the Senate Committee on Appropriations for further legislative work and to report back on Tuesday next week.

NASS had earlier approved N10.8 trillion for spending in the 2021 appropriation bill that was passed into law but no sooner had the bill been signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari had  the issue of supplementary budget surfaced. . 

Consequently, the leadership of the NASS and the Executive arm of government have been in talks on the need to make more funds available to address the security challenges in the country amongst other challenges.
