Mrs Nanre Emeje, the Director, FCT Secondary Education Board (SEB), has called on the Federal Government and corporate organisations to invest more in education for the development of the sector.
The Director, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja to give her input in the development of education in the country.
She said the call was aimed at encouraging education in line with the global campaign proposed for government and corporate organisations to increase and improve domestic financing for education.
According to her, the education sector if properly harnessed will go a long way to address poverty, security challenges, and street hawking among children in the country.
“One basic challenge confronting education generally in Nigeria is that of financing which has become a problem and all public secondary schools in FCT are formed by FCTA Administration.
“Education has a lot of things to be put in place and so education financing is a big problem in our country and FCT education board is also facing the same.
“Whatever we get in the FCT education board is what we manage and we use it within the numerous demands that are chasing the small available fund given to us.
“The influx of people into the FCT has made our enrolment in public secondary schools to be bloated and the available facilities have become overstretched,” she said.
Emeje said that no nation could develop without education, adding that there was need for the government and corporate organizations to invest in education to help develop the country.
She however called on parents in the country to be adequately involved in the education and upbringing of their children for a better and responsible nation.
