…says Public Health department closed

Despite not been paid eight (8) months health hazard allowance, the lives of staff under the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Public Health department in the Health and Human Service Secretariat are now under threat as more staff test positive to Covid-19.

Also, the FCT Public Health department has been closed since December 29th, 2020 as a result of the increasing numbers of Covid-19 staff.

NewsSpecng authoritatively gathered from relaible sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity that many staff have been exposed to the pandemic on the ground that “we attend to people on the issue of contact tracing, burial supervision, screening of Covid-19 patients and Covid-19 decontamination and evacuation.”

Due to the above reason, “we now attend to people outside the office. People come to collect their results outside. We don’t allow them into the office because of the situation” our sources added.

The official also blamed the negligence and the provision of inferior Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on the part of government authorities for the increased number of Covid-19 incident among health workers.

It would be recalled that NewsSpecng reported few weeks ago that the Public Health Workers are yet to be paid their seven (7) months hazard allowance despite been in the frontline in combating Covid-19.

The workers who are in the forefeont of combating Covid-19 have only been paid the N50,000 hazard allowance for three months -March to May 2020.

The department which is very important in the health sector is responsible for health surveys, investigations of pandemics, solving of environmental health challenges such as food borne diseases.
