Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu has handed over to Retired Air Vice Marshal Mu’azu Ahmed, a National Commissioner, pending senate confirmation of his reappointment.
Ahmed will act in that capacity pending when the Senate confirms the reappointment of Professor Yakubu as INEC chairman.
President Muhammadu Buhari recently reappointed Yakubu for another 5 year term.
In a letter to the Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan, in line with the provisions of Section 154 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As amended), President Buhari had sought the nod of the Upper Legislative Chambers.
In the letter, the President said: “I am pleased to present confirmation the nomination of professor Mahmood Yakubu for appointment as Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a second and final term.”
