The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has mainatined that the pre-departure and post-departure tests for air travellers, either on local or international flights, are necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Union has urged Nigerians to embrace unity as the country marks its 60th independence anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Head of the EU Delegation in Nigeria, Ambassador Ketil Karlsen, said Nigerians should build on things that unite rather than divide the country, in spite of diverse cultures and religions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement on Wednesday, Karlsen said the EU was proud that in spite of its diversity Nigeria had remained a united country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe amazing and rich diversity of Nigeria in terms of culture, language, religion and ethnicity is simply unique, and a vital strength that should make every Nigerian proud.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has voided the 2019 police recruitment exercise carried out by the Nigeria Police Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not fewer than 10,000 freshers were purportedly employed as constable by Mohammed Adamu, Inspector-General of Police (IGP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The process of the recruitment exercise was challenged by the Police Service Commission (PSC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a judgment on Wednesday, the Court of Appeal set aside the judgment of the lower court presided over by Justice Ekwo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A three-man panel of the appellate court, headed by Justice Peter Ige, was unanimously in holding that the IGP lacked the power to recruit constables for the NPF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Appeal Court held that the power to carry out recruitment into the NPF resides exclusively with the PSC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has mainatined that the pre-departure and post-departure tests for air travellers, either on local or international flights, are necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agency explained that this has become neccessary because individuals have two separate opportunities for infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It further stayed that the five-day pre-departure test timeline is still not a guarantee that infections will be averted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, who disclosed these in Abuja during the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing said people can get infected before and during travel, hence the need for a post-departure test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ihekweazu said five per cent of returning travellers to Abuja tested positive for COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, \"Every Nigerian has the right to come into the country but they don\u2019t have a right to infect other Nigerians. So, we have put a little bit of a preventive measure as similar as many other countries in the world to enable us to protect ourselves because we know we do not have a strong health system as you may have in the countries that they are living in. The pre-departure test is more or less a standard by most countries in the world now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA post-departure test is necessary even with a pre-departure test for two reasons. You have two separate opportunities for infection \u2013 one is in the five days prior to travel. Initially, we limited it to 72 hours, then to six days, and now we have moved it to five days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBecause we recognise that many Nigerians were complaining that sometimes they have to go on adjoining flights before getting to the airport of departure, and therefore, it becomes a bit tricky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI just saw an announcement by the United Arab Emirates announcing that they too will require a pre-departure test but 96 hours before departure.
