The Speaker described the death of Alhaji Leke Salaudeen, an Assistant Editor on the politics desk of The Nation newspapers, as shocking and sad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gbajabiamila said Salaudeen, who died on Tuesday at the Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos, was a consummate journalist, who was dedicated to his job as a thoroughbred professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201dWhenever he is assigned to cover any of our official events in Lagos he conducts the assignment with utmost sense of duty. Alhaji Salaudeen is a man of good character and values during his lifetime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The video which went viral on the day of the governorship poll shows a clip of some security operatives beaten a civilian. Security agencies have been urged to fish out and prosecute those behind the fake violence video on Ondo state governorship poll. The video which went viral on the day of the governorship poll shows a clip of some security operatives beaten a civilian. Besides, the narrative from the clip claimed that the wife of the governor was also beaten up. She has since refuted the claim. The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has dissolved the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) across the 36 State Police Commands and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) The dissolution followed national outcry over the brutality and abuse of Nigerians by the Police special squad. There have been nationwide protest to end the squad in the last one week. The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has dissolved the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) across the 36 State Police Commands and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) The dissolution followed national outcry over the brutality and abuse of Nigerians by the Police special squad. There have been nationwide protest to end the squad in the last one week. The IGP in a statement issued on Sunday, however assured Nigerians that a new policing arrangement to address anticipated policing gaps with the dissolution of SARS would be announced in due course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement which was signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, also said a strategic stakeholders forum will determine the way forward. Mba, a Deputy Commissioner of Police stated, \"In the finest spirit of democratic, citizen-centred and community policing, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni has today, 11th October, 2020, dissolved the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) across the 36 State Police Commands and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) where they hitherto existed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"The IGP, while noting that the dissolution of SARS is in response to the yearnings of the Nigerian people, observes that by this dissolution, all officers and men of the now defunct Special Anti-robbery Squad are being redeployed with immediate effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"The IGP notes that the Force is not oblivious of the ever present need to combat armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the country which was before now the core mandate of the erstwhile Squad. The recent approval of N654 million for additional Spectrum Monitoring Equipment to be sited in Anambra state was aimed at addressing the challenge of overstretching the ones designated for Abuja and Ogoja stations. A statement signed by the Deputy Director of Press in the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Mrs Philomina Oshodin said the project was not targetted at the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) or any socio-cultural group in the south east, contrary to claims in some quarters. The statement reads, \"to ensure compliance by users of assigned frequencies, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy obtained an approval in 2017 to acquire five (5) Radio Spectrum Monitoring Equipment and two (2) Denial of Service Equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"The five (5) Radio Spectrum Monitoring Equipment were deployed to monitor the whole Country as follows: Azare - to cover Bauchi, Borno, Kano, Jigawa, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe and Yobe States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"During the Monitoring Exercise, it was discovered that the Abuja and Ogoja Stations were being over stretched as coverage areas was too large for effective and efficient monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\"Consequently, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy sought and obtained approval to acquire one (1) additional Hybrid Mobile Radio Spectrum Monitoring System in the sum of N654 Million to be sited in Anambra State to reduce the coverage area for both Abuja and Ogoja Stations. This will reduce Abuja Station coverage and enable Abuja to cover Kwara and Ekiti thereby reducing the coverage areas for Lagos and Gusau Monitoring Stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\" The public may wish to note that the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy does not have the mandate of monitoring radio broadcasting stations and their services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, Gusau was to cover Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kwara, Katsina and Kaduna States., while Ogoja was to cover Cross River, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Ebonyi, Benue, Enugu, Abia and Imo States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said Lagos was designed to cover Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti and Osun States, while Abuja was to cover FCT and Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Edo, Bayelsa, Anambra and Delta States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security agencies have been urged to fish out and prosecute those behind the fake violence video on Ondo state governorship poll. The video which went viral on the day of the governorship poll shows a clip of some security operatives beaten a civilian. Besides, the narrative from the clip claimed that the wife of the governor was also beaten up. She has since refuted the claim. Reacting on the video, Dr. Kayode Ajulo said the attempt by those behind the video to create fear in the mind of eligible voters was highly distasteful and uncalled for. Ajulo in a statement urged the security to look properly into the video and fish out the perpetrators.
