The Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN) has taken it’s political awareness campaign to youths in Gombe communities using local football matches.
Gombe State Coordinator of the initiative, Deacon Ayo Solomon Kaltungo, said the activities of IBBN are aimed at creating a new era for the youths to see themselves as a political force, capable of building a better and brighter future for the Nigerian youths.
To this end, IBBN has engaged youths in some communities in Akko and Kwami Local Government Areas of the State through football matches that brought together youths from diverse backgrounds.
Two football matches have so far been held between Akko United FC and YOWICAN FC in Akko football pitch Lawanti, along Bauchi road, for Gombe Central zone and another match between FC Kafarati Kwami and Kwami United at GDSS/Idi Primary School, Kwami LGA for Gombe North zone.
Speaking on the outcomes of the engagements, Ayo Solomon said IBBN was able to achieve one of it’s goals of bringing together the youths through the grassroots sports development and intends to do more in other LGA’s of the State.
“The friendly matches was able to foster sportsmanship, social interaction, and community cohesion. We also urged them to get their PVC’s and participate actively and positively in the forthcoming elections”, Deacon Ayo stressed.
Beyond the game, IBBN demonstrated its commitment to youth empowerment and capacity building by supporting all the teams with essential sports equipment as each team received two sets of training kits and a football.
According to Deacon Ayo, the intervention was aimed at encouraging discipline, team work, healthy life styles and the identification of local talents.
“The novelty football matches aligns directly with IBBN’s core objectives of promoting peace and unity, engaging youths constructively to reduce social vices, supporting grassroots development and leveraging sports as a tool for nation building and social integration.
“The organization remains committed to scaling similar initiatives across communities nationwide to contribute to sustainable national development”, Deacon Ayo maintained.
