Missing petrol pipe: Father beats daughter to death in Calabar

If Mr. Joseph Emmanuel of No. 3 Esit Ebom street in Calabar South local government area of Cross River, had an inkling that his misplaced petrol pipe, an item used in transferring fuel to his commercial motorcycle, would lead to the death of his 10 year old daughter, he would have let sleeping dog lie.

Trouble allegedly started when Emmanuel, aged 24, discovered that his petrol pipe was missing, a development that allegedly angered him to beat his daughter, leaving her with some injuries before death.

The action by Emmanuel on his daughter allegedly did not go down well with neighbours who attacked him and threatened to lynch him, but for the intervention of one Okon Edwin, who alerted the police and the police swung into action by mobilising to the scene and rescuing Emmanuel from the mob.

Police PRO in the state, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, informed that the suspect was found on arrival by the police, with visible injuries and was immediately taken into custody.

While the suspect was taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for medical attention, the deceased daughter was examined and her body deposited in the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The police spokesman also said that the suspect confessed to the act, admitting that he carried out the action out of provocation.

Eitokpah disclosed that investigation into the incident has commenced and suspect may be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
