The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false and misleading reports claiming that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Commission said it had not published any timetable or schedule for the 2027 polls, stressing that claims circulating in some sections of the media and on other platforms did not originate from INEC.
INEC explained that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law, particularly the Electoral Act, 2022. The Commission cited Section 28(1) of the Act, which mandates INEC to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.
According to the Commission, any timetable or schedule released outside this legal timeframe cannot be authentic.
The electoral body assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election would be released at the appropriate time and in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2022.
INEC further emphasized that when the timetable is eventually released, it will be communicated through its established and verified channels to ensure transparency and accuracy.
The Commission urged members of the public and the media to disregard the fake reports and to always rely on INEC’s official platforms for credible and authoritative information regarding electoral activities.
