FG Expresses Deep Sorrow as Fire Claims Dozens of Lives in Switzerland

Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic fire incident that occurred on New Year’s Day at a ski resort in Switzerland, resulting in the loss of dozens of lives and leaving several others injured.

In a statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, the Government said it received the news with profound sadness.

According to reports, the fire broke out in the early hours of January 1 at Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, a renowned and exclusive ski destination in Switzerland.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, spoke on behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, expressing heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Switzerland over the devastating incident.

“The Government and people of Nigeria stand in solidarity with Switzerland at this difficult time,” the statement said. “We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in this unfortunate tragedy and wish those who sustained injuries a speedy and full recovery.”

The Ministry emphasized that Nigeria’s thoughts and prayers are with Switzerland as it mourns the victims and supports those affected by the disaster.

The Federal Government also reaffirmed its commitment to the long-standing cordial relations between Nigeria and Switzerland, noting that moments of grief further underscore the importance of international solidarity and compassion.
