World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was on Monday involved in a road traffic crash on the Lagos–Ibadan expressway at Makun, Ogun State.
Eyewitnesses and first responders at the scene told reporters that the vehicle conveying the boxer collided with another car.
Though circumstances surrounding the incident remains unclear.
Two persons were confirmed dead at the scene, while Joshua reportedly sustained minor injuries and received immediate attention from rescuers.
A witness who took part in the rescue operation told newsmen that emergency teams worked quickly to evacuate the injured. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
Traffic officials and local police have cordoned off the crash site as investigations into the cause of the collision continue.
Officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency were said to be on the scene.
