The Gombe State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has launched an investigation over a viral video of a physical assault by Adamu Abdullahi Danko, an aide in the office of the Chief of Staff, Government House Gombe, and Abdulraman Abubakar, a serving ward councillor in the State.

The viral video had generated heavy criticism on the act of impunity and physical assault netted on the councillor by the aide of the Chief of Staff. All of them are members of the ruling APC.

Moses Kyari, the State Publicity Secretary of the party in a press statement to Journalists expressed the party’s concern over what it described as “deeply troubling and falls far short of the values, discipline, and democratic culture that the APC stands for”.

It unequivocally condemned the violent act and unlawful conduct while announcing that a comprehensive internal investigation had been launched. It stated also that the individuals involved have been summoned to ascertain both the immediate and underlying causes of the incident.

It said the decisive step was necessary to uphold accountability, safeguard the integrity of the party, and ensure that corrective measures are taken to prevent future recurrence.

The statement reads further: “For the avoidance of doubt, the Party categorically affirms that the action in question was undertaken solely at the individual’s own volition.

“He acted independently, taking the law into his own hands, without any instruction, approval, or authorisation from the Party or any Government office.

“Such conduct is wholly unacceptable, runs contrary to the values we uphold, and will not be tolerated under any circumstance.

“The Party also commends the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kari for his prompt action in suspending the aide, Adamu Abdullahi Danko, pending the outcome of investigations, which is a demonstration of commitment to discipline and justice.

“The Party assures the general public that the ongoing investigation will be thorough, transparent, and firmly guided by the Constitution of the APC, relevant laws, and established procedures.

“It will meticulously examine all material facts surrounding the incident, including the circumstances leading up to it and a review of the recorded audio message alleged to have triggered the altercation.

“Any individual found culpable at any stage will be subjected to appropriate sanctions, strictly in accordance with Party rules and the law.

“The APC Gombe State Chapter reassures the public, human rights organisations, and all concerned stakeholders that it is deeply troubled by this development and remains firmly committed to accountability, due process, and justice.

“The Party will fully cooperate with lawful authorities as required and will take decisive internal measures to enforce discipline and prevent any recurrence.

“We therefore urge for calm and restraint as the investigation continues.

“The APC remains firm in its commitment to peaceful engagement, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law, and will continue to uphold these principles both in word and in deed.

“Further updates will be provided as the process unfolds”, the statement concluded.
