A group, ‘Good Governance Advocacy International,’ has admonished Nigerians to rally behind the newly appointed Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), as his leadership style would strengthen the country’s security architecture, if citizens and government at all levels play their respective roles.
Director-General of the group, Leonard Anyogo, made the call in a statement, Thursday, while applauding President Bola Tinubu, for what he described as “an appointment that resonates with the Nigerian populace.”
According to him, Musa had earned nationwide respect, credibility and integrity from his years of service, reasoning that his track record as a former Chief of Defence Staff remains a clear demonstration of renewed dexterity to lead the nation’s defence sector effectively.
Anyogo pointed out that improving national security require collective responsibility hence the need for citizens, communities and authorities at the local, state and federal levels, to embrace transparency, fairness and justice in governance.
“Security is everybody’s business. Good governance makes it easier for the military to protect us because it guarantees equity and fairness,” he said.
He noted that his organisation was ready to partner with the Ministry of Defence and other stakeholders to drive national reorientation campaigns, reasoning that, sustainable security is built on good governance.
Congratulating the minister, Anyogo said much was expected of him having consistently shown competence and dedication in previous roles.
The DG who argued that a stable Nigeria remains crucial to Africa’s progress, also appealed to international organisations and foreign partners to support Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen its security system.
He further enjoined Nigerians to play their part in safeguarding the country as national security begins with citizen participation and community vigilance.
