Bonny Island Golf Club hosts the BIGC Ladies Invitational 2025*

The Bonny Island Golf Club Ladies Section (also known as The Bonny Birdies, on Saturday, Nov. 29th rounded up their three- day long invitational golf tournament.

The event started with the Caddies tournament on Thursday 27th, Day 2 was for the Division 2 players and thecocktaill night in the evening, and the finals and prize giving on Saturday, the 29th.

The tournament took place amidst the serene environment and lush greens of BIGC in Bonny Island, Rivers State.

Lady Darlene Cobham, Nollywood actress and singer, and current Lady captain of the club, hosted the event and also emerged the best net winner in the Division 1 ladies’ category, returning an impressive 73 net, immediate past LGAN president lady Evelyn Oyome took away the lowest gross for Guest ladies, while former BIGC Lady Captain, Nnena Ahube, clinched the best gross award for BIGC ladies.

Promise Onyia-Uche won the Division 2 ladies’ best net, with Marytina Osuchukwu and Bessie Obie finishing as runner-up and second runner-up respectively.

The event, which hosted men and lady golfers from all parts of the country, was described by the lady captain as “a good way to wrap the year up for the ladies section.”

She also praised the support of the club captain, the exco members, and sponsors in seeing this year’s event to a successful finish. “The camaraderie among the ladies was beautiful, and that is one of the best things about golf.”

In the line up of ceremonial tee-off was the NLNG Train 7 project Director Engr Ali Uwais, newly emerged LGAN president Dr Lami Ahmed, Rr Admr. PE Effah, Bar. Ngor Ojabo, amongst other VIPs.

To upcoming female golfers, the Lady Capt and host, Cobham, offered words of encouragement: “To every young lady picking up a club, keep showing up and keep swinging. The benefits are endless”

In the men’s Division 1 category, Hafiz Iyal Abdullahi topped the leaderboard with 75 net, playing off handicap 14.
He was followed by Oluwaseun Adedipe, who finished with 76 net after returning an impressive 83 gross.

In the men’s Division 2 category, Asuquo Cobham secured best net with 67, edging out runner-up Muhammad Hafiz-Iyal on countback. Ayodeji Aderemi placed third with 70 net.

The guest categories delivered strong performances as well. Former LGAN President Lady Evelyn Oyome won the guest ladies’ category with 73 net, followed by Joyce Nule with 75 net and Helen Ayo with 79 net. In the Guest men’s guest category, Br. Gen Michael John-Okon emerged best net winner with 68 net, followed by Capt (NN) Katuka Haruna (75 net) and Sa’adu Baloni (77 net).

BIGC Vice Captain, Michael C. Ukaegbu described the 2025 tournament as a wonderful outing for the club’s ladies’ section.

“This year’s tournament was top notch,” he said. “The camaraderie, the turnout, and competitive spirit we witnessed is a clear sign that our club is moving in the right direction.”

He applauded all participants for their discipline and competitiveness and commended Lady Captain Cobham for her leadership.

He also thanked the BIGC Captain, Abubakar Hussaini (in absentia), for his support and acknowledged the Caddies for their hard work and golfing skills during their Tournament.(NAN)
