The Federal Government has expressed deep concern over the abduction of female students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, vowing to ensure their safe and immediate rescue.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government conveyed solidarity with the families of the abducted schoolgirls and condemned the attack, which also claimed the lives of school officials who were performing their duties.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was quoted as reaffirming that the protection of all citizens particularly schoolchildren remains a solemn and non-negotiable responsibility of the Nigerian State.
“The government condemns the reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials who were carrying out their noble duty,” the statement said.
Idris disclosed that security and intelligence agencies have received “clear and urgent directives” to locate and rescue the students and ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.
He stressed that the government would not relent until the girls are returned safely to their families.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment to strengthening national security, the minister said the Federal Government is recalibrating Nigeria’s military, policing, and intelligence architecture to prevent future attacks and respond more swiftly when threats arise.
Idris added that Nigeria is intensifying regional security cooperation through ECOWAS, the African Union (AU), and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to secure borders and suppress terrorist and criminal networks operating across the region.
He urged citizens to remain calm and assured Nigerians that the rescue of the schoolgirls is a top priority.
“The Federal Government will not relent until this objective is achieved,” Idris said.
