The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved a four-day extension of the ongoing Ward-level Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The extension followed a review of the programme’s progress during the Commission third Quarterly meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on Tuesday, 7th October 2025.

According to the Commission, the registration exercise, which was initially scheduled to end on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, will now continue until Sunday, 12th October 2025.

The decision to extend the CVR was informed by the impressive turnout recorded so far and the need to accommodate more eligible citizens who are yet to register. As of 7th October 2025, INEC reported a total of 55,346 new voter registrations in the FCT. This figure comprises 38,528 online pre-registrations and 16,818 completed physical registrations, a development the Commission described as “a reflection of growing civic participation and the success of devolving registration to the grassroots.”

INEC reaffirmed that while online pre-registration remains suspended in the FCT, this measure is intended to ensure that all pre-registrants complete their registration in person at designated centres, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

The Commission also reiterated its call for all eligible citizens who have not yet registered to seize this extension to do so. Additionally, registered voters seeking to transfer their registration to the FCT—or within the FCT—are encouraged to take advantage of the extended period.

However, INEC warned against multiple registration, stressing that it remains a punishable offence under Nigerian law.

Residents can access the full list and addresses of registration centres through the Commission’s official website and verified social media handles.

INEC commended its field officials and stakeholders for their dedication and commitment to ensuring a seamless and inclusive registration process.
