The Federal Republic of Nigeria has extended warm congratulations to the State of Qatar as the Gulf nation marks its Independence Anniversary.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, conveyed felicitations to His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar on the occasion of the country’s anniversary.
Ambassador Tuggar described the anniversary as a celebration of “the strength, resilience, and unity of the Qatari people in their journey toward sovereignty, progress, and prosperity.”
According to the statement, Nigeria joins Qatar in commemorating the historic occasion and reaffirms its commitment to deepening mutual respect, cooperation, and global partnership.
Nigeria and Qatar have maintained longstanding cordial relations, underpinned by cooperation in diverse sectors including trade, transportation, education, energy, and security.
Both countries also work closely within multilateral platforms such as the United Nations (UN) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to promote peace, sustainable development, and global security.
The statement further highlighted Nigeria’s readiness to consolidate existing bilateral engagements while exploring new areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
“Once again, Nigeria conveys her warmest felicitations to the Government and people of the State of Qatar, with best wishes for peace, prosperity, and national advancement,” the ministry added.
Qatar, a small but influential Gulf nation, celebrates its independence gained from British oversight in 1971.
The country has since grown into a global player in diplomacy, energy, and international development.
