Organisers of the famous Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup football competition have set August 22nd to 9th September 2025 as the period of registration for clubs willing to participate in this year’s competition.

The annual competition, which will hold it’s 9th edition, has continued to attract more participating clubs from Gombe South Senatorial zone and has also become one of the most popular grassroots sports competition the State.

Speaking at a press conference to flag off activities for the competition, Chairman of the Committee, Promise Uwaeme, confirmed that only 64 teams will be admitted for this year’s competition despite increased interest from many teams.

“As usual, this press briefing marks the beginning of our activities and immediately after the briefing, clubs are encouraged to begin registration,” Promise said.

“We can only take 64 clubs in this edition because we need to do something that we can monitor and ensure strict compliance with our rules and regulations. If we allow more than this number, it might be difficult to manage,” he noted.

Promise also announced a review of the registration fee of a non-refundable administrative fee of ten thousand naira instead of the previous five thousand naira. He urged clubs to acquaint themselves with all competition rules before committing to participate.

“I want to be clear to clubs, we don’t want to have difficulties in explaining our rules and regulations during the competition. So we want every club to study the rules before applying to register. Make sure you are okay with itv before proceeding with your application,” he stressed.

On team eligibility, he clarified that each club is allowed to register only three players currently featuring in the Nationwide League One (NLO), while those in the Nigeria National League (NNL) and the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) remain ineligible.

“Clubs in the state league downward are allowed to participate. Players in the NNL and NPFL are not allowed to participate,” he added.

The chairman further disclosed that Kalaring United remains suspended from the competition until pending issues with the team are resolved.

Meanwhile, this year’s edition will be staged across multiple centers in the four local government areas. Kaltungo will host 24 teams, Billiri 16, while Shongom and Balanga will register 12 teams each.
