Insecurity: NIHOTUR shuts Bagauda zonal campus in Kano state

The security concerns across the country, has forced the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), to shut its Bagauda zonal campus.

NIHOTOUR explained that closure of the campus located in Baguada became imperative as the area was listed among possible places for attck by insurgents.

NewsSpecng reported that places of learning have become target for insurgents with the recent cases in Kaduna where a number of students in a private university were abducted and also Federal University of Agriculture, Markudi, Benue state.

Already, the state has ordered the closure of its institution, Government Technical College, Bagauda, which is within the same location with NIHOTOUR campus.

In a statement by the Coordinator of the Zonal Campus, Dr. Abba Shehu stated that the closure was at the instance of of the Director General of the Institute, Alhaji Nura Sani Kangiwa.

He stressed that closure of the Campus became imperative in view of security reports that put the Bagauda axis on security danger list of possible attack by insurgents.

The directive also ordered students and staff to vacate the campus for their safety.

While the Director General expressed his displeasure at the decision to close the Bagauda Campus of the Institute, he said this has become necessary ‘because we have the responsibility to protect the lives of our staff and students’ he noted.

” However, the Mini Campus of the Institute located at the Civic Centre Road in the Kano metropolis, where the IATA Course Programs are offered will remain operational, and therefore staff and students of the Mini Campus are to go on with their normal academic activities unhindered,” the statement further stated.
