Nigeria congratulates Benin Republic on independence anniversary, reaffirms commitment to regional unity

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb Yusuf Tuggar has congratulated the Republic of Benin on the occasion of its Independence Anniversary, underscoring the long-standing bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two West African neighbours.

The minister conveyed his heartfelt greetings to his Beninese counterpart, Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, according to a statement released on Saturday, August 2, 2025, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.

The statement quoted the minister describing Benin as a “valued partner” with whom Nigeria shares a rich history, cultural ties, and mutual aspirations for regional stability and prosperity.

He noted that both countries continue to collaborate on key areas such as trade, border security, and economic integration.

“Nigeria remains committed to strengthening bilateral relations with Benin and working together within ECOWAS to advance the welfare of our people,” the statement said.

Tuggar also praised Benin’s democratic resilience and contributions to regional development, reaffirming Nigeria’s solidarity with the Government and people of Benin.
