The Northern Nigeria Human Rights Advocates has demanded an immediate and decisive action against killers of Kaduna travelers in Mangun, Plateau State over the weekend.
It tasked the Plateau State Government to launch an urgent, transparent investigation and ensure that those responsible are identified and held fully accountable.
Sylvester Yibis, Coordinator of the group in a statement sent to our Correspondent condemned
the brutal and senseless killing of the innocent travelers who reportedly lost their way while journeying from Zaria to Quanpan.
They were unfortunately attacked in Mangun, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State where twelve persons were reportedly killed.
He said, the horrific act represents a grave violation of the right to life, freedom of movement, and the basic principles of human dignity and coexistence.
According to him, the victims posed no threat to anyone as they were merely attempting to navigate their way across the country but met an untimely and undeserved end at the hands of those who have no regard for human life.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the communities affected by this terrible loss. No one should have to mourn a loved one whose only offense was traveling within their own country”, Mr Yibis stated.
The statement reads further: “We urge security agencies to enhance protection for travelers, especially along vulnerable routes, and to take proactive steps in preventing such attacks from reoccurring.
“We appeal to the Federal Government to treat this matter with utmost seriousness and demonstrate that impunity will not be tolerated anywhere in Nigeria.
“We call on traditional rulers, faith leaders, and civil society organizations to intensify efforts to promote peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding, and nonviolence in all communities.
“Nigeria must not become a nation where fear and violence reign over law and justice. Every life matters, and every Nigerian deserves to feel safe in every corner of the country.
“Northern Nigeria Human Rights Advocates will continue to speak out and stand up for justice, peace, and the protection of all citizens regardless of ethnicity, religion, or place of origin”, the statement concluded.
End.
