For the second time in two months, the country home of Senator Natasha H. Akpoti-Uduaghan in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, came under yet another violent attack
According to report, a group of armed assailants stormed the residence under the cover of darkness, on Tuesday 17th June vandalizing windows and attempting to break further into the premises.
The attack was, however, foiled by a swift response from a combined team of local police officers, community vigilantes, and courageous youths in the area.
One of the attackers arrested at the scene and identified as Suberu Jose, a native of Ihima, is alleged to be a ritualist with links to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s political adversaries.
Security sources revealed that during interrogation, he confessed to participating in three previous coordinated attacks on the senator’s home.
Before police arrived, an enraged mob reportedly attempted to lynch the suspect. He was eventually rescued by law enforcement and taken into custody. Items recovered from him include a cutlass and a bundle of charms, believed to be used for sinister purposes. The rest of the gang, said to be armed with dangerous weapons, managed to escape and are still on the run.
This fresh assault follows a similar attack on April 15, 2025, which caused damage to the senator’s property but ended without arrests. The latest arrest is being hailed as a breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into what appears to be a deliberate and sustained campaign of violence targeting the lawmaker and her family.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is currently battling two criminal charges filed by the Federal Government. The charges were pressed after she publicly accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment — an explosive claim that led to her controversial six-month suspension from the Senate.
Reacting to the incident, the senator, through her media team, condemned the attack and called for calm among her supporters. She reiterated her determination to represent the people of Kogi Central fearlessly and called on authorities to end the wave of politically motivated violence.
The police are yet to release an official statement, as at the time of this report just as they are yet to release or charge anyone to court over the April incident which it said it is investigating.
