DG NBC appeals to signal distributors, channel owners ahead of DSO in Lagos

Releated Post

The  Acting Director General, National Broadcasting Cooperation, NBC, Armstrong Idachaba has appealed to signal distributors and channel owners to ensure that all necessary procedures and installations are carried out for a hitch free switch on slated for 29th of April 2021.

Idachaba said this during a Digital Switch Over, DSO  conference in Lagos on Monday.

He also appealed to the box manufacturers to make boxes available in equal proportion to Lagos population.

“To the box manufacturers, Lagos is a huge population, boxes must be on ground and available. Some observers remain unconvinced that our local box manufacturers have the capacity to deliver due largely to the huge projected requirement of 40 million STBs.

“I know that you will  justify the huge confidence imposed on you by NBC and the government”.

According to the Ag DG, the conference will set the framework for the implementation of the process in Lagos.

“The switch on in Lagos is very significant because Lagos is unquestionably the media hub of Nigeria, the most populated city in the country and advertising melting point.”

He further explained that the level of awareness about the DSO is still less than 20 percent which also indicates the preparedness by broadcasters which generally hovers about 30 percent.

“The Directorate of Broadcast Research and planning has undertaken a study of tbe next phase of the roll out. The research outcomes indicate data or findings regarding level of awareness which is still less than 20 percent. It also indicates a level of preparedness by broadcasters which generally hovers about 30 percent.

“The report also covers expected revenues from the DSO, challenges to the roll out and current audience rating of programmes.”

It would be recalled that the country rolled out in 2016 with the pilot in Jos and subsequently in six other states, where the proposition is gaining traction.
