The Federal Government on Monday announced the renaming of the University of Abuja after the country’s former Military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon.
According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idri, the Federal University is now to be known as Yakubu Gowon University.
Idris disclosed this after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu.
The renaming is in honour of Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday.
Idris stated that the proposal will be forwarded to the National Assembly for formal approval.
