Wife of Cross River governor, Bishop Eyoanwan Otu, has charged parents to support their children participation in the Calabar Children Carnival, as it positively impact on the mental alertness of the participants.
Speaking at the flag-off of this year’s Children Carnival dry run, Sunday afternoon, in Calabar the state capital, the governor’s wife stressed the need for viewing the event as a platform for children to maintain physical fitness, as well as enhance their mental alertness.
Otu, represented by wife of the Chairman of Calabar South local government area, Prof. Esther Archibong, affirmed that the timing of the carnival was strategic.
According to her, “it coincides with the festive season, providing an ideal opportunity for children to engage in enjoyable activities while building friendships and creating lasting memories with their peers.”
She further applauded the participating bands for their innovative displays, characterized by captivating costumes and designs, which consistently draw a large number of spectators eager to witness the annual event.
“Past experiences have shown that children who engage in the carnival cherish the memories created and eagerly anticipate the next edition,” Otu remarked.
The main children’s carnival for the 2024 Calabar Carnival is slated for December 27, while the adult carnival christened as Africa’s biggest street party would hold December 28.
