Chinese Ambassador pledges to enhance education exchange with Nigeria

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has reiterated his commitment to strengthening educational exchange between China and Nigeria.

The ambassador made this known during the commissioning of a Chinese Corner and award ceremony for the 2024 Chinese Ambassador Drawing Competition at Government Secondary School Wuse Zone 3, in Abuja.

Yu emphasised the importance of education in fostering economic development and social progress.

“Education is a fundamental driver for national development, and by enhancing educational opportunities in Nigeria, we can work together to build a brighter future for both our nations,” he said.

The ambassador outlined several ongoing key initiatives aimed at improving educational infrastructure and access in Nigeria.

These initiatives include scholarship opportunities for Nigerian students to study in China, providing educational materials, and supporting the construction of schools in underserved areas,” he said.

He also mentioned the potential of collaborative programs between Chinese and Nigerian institutions to facilitate knowledge exchange and technological advancements.

“We believe that education is not just about acquiring knowledge; it is about building lasting friendships and partnerships,”Yu said.

Dr Muhammed Ladan, the Director / Secretary, FCT Secondary Education Board, expressed gratitude for China’s continued support.

“The partnership with China in education is vital for our efforts to improve the quality of education in Nigeria.

“The Corners serve as a resource centre for Chinese education and also serve as hubs for cultural exchange between Nigeria and China.

“We welcome these initiatives and look forward to working closely with the Chinese government,” he remarked,”Ladan said.

Mrs Josephine Ogwu, the Principal of the School, expressed her appreciation to the Embassy and Mr Martin Chen, Chairman of China Harbour Engineering Company Nigeria Limited for the Centre, stating that it demonstrates China’s commitment to education and cultural exchange.

“The cultural centre which provides a platform for educational and cultural exchange between Nigeria and China, will broaden the global perspective of our students, and expose them to a world beyond our borders, fostering tolerance and building global citizens.

“In this global era, understanding and respect for diversity is more crucial than ever.

“Through the various programs, language classes, arts, and cultural activities that will be hosted here, our students will have a unique opportunity to appreciate the rich traditions, philosophy, and innovations of Chinese civilization,”Ogwu said.

Newsspecng.com reports that awards were given to students from 12 Chinese Corner Schools for a drawing competition.
