Edo: I have confidence people’s choice will prevail, says IPAC Chair

The Inter-Party Advisory Council Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle has expressed confidence In people’s choice to prevail in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo.

Edo residents are scheduled to go to the poll on September 21 2024 to elect a new governor as the tenure of Governor Godwin Obaseki runs out.

Citing the last general election were the president lost his strong hold, Lagos state, Dantelle said it is obvious that the peoples mandate will prevail.

He is of the opinion that the Edo election will be an improvement on the 2023 polls.

“That tells you what happened in the 2023 election that the People’s mandate, okay, actually counted.

“So with that, I believe that it will be better with What will happen in Edo State governorship election.”

Meanwhile, INEC on Wednesday declared its readiness to conduct the Edo governorship election.

Speaking at the stakeholders meeting on Edo governorship election held in Benin City, Yakubu expressed the readiness of the Commission to conduct the poll.

He also stressed that INEC has been open and transparent about the processes

He said: “Let me reassure stakeholders that INEC is ready for the election. We are deploying the BVAS machines for voter accreditation at polling units and for the upload of results to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal.

“For the 2024 Edo State Governorship election holding next week, INEC has been open and transparent about our processes. We engaged several times with stakeholders at the national level and here in Edo State.

“We have made every information about the election available to Nigerians. We have published the list of candidates, the number registered voters and the number of PVCs collected. We have made available the locations of voting and collation centres across the State. We have accredited observers and media organisations for the election.
