But giving the details of the approval, the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Salihu Baba Alkali, said the five year policy (2023 – 2027) is geared towards addressing malnutrition crises and related infant deaths that has bedeviled the State for some time now.

He explained that, the council approved the multi sectorial policy that comprised some agencies including the ministries of Health, Agriculture and education with that of budget and economic planning coordinating the implementation of the policy.

He said the State Governor had always shown concern over the future and well being of children in the State.

According to him, “Governor Inuwa Yahaya had looked and considered the situation on ground and concluded that if our children are not fed well in terms of health, their future will not by secured.

“This nutrition policy intends to improve the nutrition of our children in the state, not only to improve but to reduce malnutrition and also poverty.

“We all know it’s not only Gombe State that is facing the issue of malnutrition it’s all over the country and particularly the Northern states”, the Commissioner stated.

The nutrition policy is a Federal Government Programme which Gombe State has keyed into it. It is being implemented in conjunction with development partners.
