The University of Ilorin Alumni have disagreed with its suspended president, Dr. Stephen Olawale Fasakin on the recent concluded election of Convocation representative to the Council.
Fasakin had queried the legality of the convocation in his letter to Unilorin Vice Chancellor.
But in its reaction, the association’s Acting National President, Dr Musa Abdullah and Ibrahim Atanda, acting National General Secretary said the convocation was done within the school law.
Besides, they said in a statement that Dr. Fasakin lacks the power to challenge the convocation.
The statement reads “We refer to the letter on the above subject dated 18th day of March and addressed to your office by one Dr. Stephen Olawale Fasakin.
“We write to inform you that the author of the letter on the above subject matter did not have the power to write such a letter having been duly suspended as the President of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association. Not only that, the letter was written by him without the knowledge and authority of the National Executive Committee
“However, we state categorically that the procedure for convening and holding the Convocation held at the Auditorium on 19th March, 2021 was in line with the provisions of the University of Ilorin Act and same was duly complied with by the University Administration under your able leadership.”
They also commended the school authorities for providing the enabling environment to conduct the election of a representative of Convocation to the Governing Council.
“Apart from the fact that the election was free and fair, it was equally rancour-free with impressive attendance.
“We congratulate you on this achievement and assure you of our unalloyed support in steering the ship of our great University,” the statement further stated.
