The Rivers State High Court has strike out the case against Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule and 25 Rivers Lawmakers over the continued sitting of the lawmakers as members of Rivers State House of Assembly after their seats have been declared vacant by Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie.
This follows after Ehie’s Counsel, Barr. Marc-Barengo, informed the Court of the decision of Ehie to withdraw the suit. The Counsels to Amaehwule, the 24 lawmakers and the Assembly did not oppose the application to withdraw the suit.
As expected, the presiding judge, Justice F. A. Fiberesima, struck out the suit.
The implication of this is that Rt. Hon. Amaewhule and 24 other lawmakers are legally empowered to carry our their legislative functions as members of Rivers State House of Assembly.
This development is unexpected after the resignation of Edison Ehie as Speaker of the House of Assembly, and in view of the posture of Governor Siminalayi Fubara to implement 8th point directive.
The next on the agenda is the representation of the budget to the House of Assembly.
Meanwhile Governor Simi Fubara visited his Bayela State counterpart recently .
Political observers believed the visit is to seek his advise on how to navigate the murky water he has found himself , knowing fully well that Wike and Gov Diri are not in good terms.
