President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abubakar Momoh as the minister of Ministry of Niger Delta Development in a minor rejig of the new cabinet.

The appointment of a minister for the Ministry of Niger Delta may not be unconnected to the protest registered by  the Chief Edwin Clark led  Pan Niger Delta Forum who  had called on the president to revisit the omission of the Ministry.

Monoh, 65 was initially named minister of Youth, an appointment which attracted backlash for the president.

The minor shake up of some ministers in the newly announced Ministerial Portfolios also affected  Adegboyega Oyetola who was redeployed from the Ministry of Transportation to the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

Additionally, Bunmi Tunji-Ojo has been redeployed to the Ministry of Interior and Sa’idu Alkali has been appointed as the new Minister of Transportation.

Presidential Spokesman Ajuri Ngelale made these announcement in a statement on Sunday evening.

Furthermore, Ngelale announced that a Minister-Designate will soon be assigned to the Federal Ministry of Youth.

The statement added, “Furthermore, both Ministers of State in the Oil & Gas sector are now domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources with the following designations:

“(i) Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri is the Hon. Minister of State (Oil), Petroleum Resources

“(ii) Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo is the Hon. Minister of State (Gas), Petroleum Resources

“The President approves the renaming of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Ecological Management as the Federal Ministry of Environment.

According to the statement, these changes are effective immediately.
