The Kano State government on thursday inaugurated a 22 – member committee to screen and verify the appointment of 10,800 civil servants that were alleged to be illegally recruited by the immediate past administration of former governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Inaugurating the committee, the secretary to the State government, Dr Baffa Bichi, said the government found it necessary to set up the committee in order to investigate the last – minute employment of the affected civil servants without following the laid – down rules and regulation governing employment in the civil service.

“Government views this as an anomaly and, therefore, resolved to set up a committee to study and review the entire process.”

“Among the work of the committee is to compile the list of the already employed staff as well as establishing the financial implication on state finance and ascertain whether the provisions were adhere to.”

“The Committee is expected to work dispassionately, deligently, with a view to strengthen the civil service.”

Bichi said major concern of this administration is that the recruitment was done in a rush when the previous government was on its way out.

“The total number recruited within the last few weeks of the administration is over the total number of recruitment of the 8 years of their stay.”

“The huge recruitment of 10,800 plus within a short period of time indicates some sinister motives.” Bichi said.

In his remarks, the chairman of the committee and former head of the civil service, Dr Shehu Minjibir, promised to work deligently to assure justice is done.
