CEPASD tasks youths on peace education

The Centre For Peace Advocacy and Sustainable Development (CEPASD), has called on youths in the African sub-region to embrace peace education for peaceful coexistence in the region.

The Executive Director of (CEPASD), Mr Igweshi Augustine, made the call at the 2023 International Conference on Peace Development and Nation Building held at Bangkok International Convention Center Thailand from 21st to 23rd June 2023

Augustine said the conference brought together network of domestic and international policymakers, business entrepreneurs, scholars, researchers, and civic leaders and prominent thousands of delegates to discuss issues pertaining to the advancement of Peace, development and nation-building in Asia and Africa

According to him, the conference is vital to the creation and/or improvement of an eco-system that supports people in the search for solutions relating to peace, development and nation-building.

He said it also aims at galvanizing partnerships from multi-key stakeholders to maximize human capital and develop quality people who can help shape their respective countries towards becoming more peaceful and civilized nations.

“Peace education is a process of promoting knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values to prevent conflict and violence in other to live in peace and harmony in the society. Peace education nurture belief system to make a positive attitude toward a peaceful society.

“Peace education is also empowers students to utilize creative and non-violent means to settle down their conflicts, live peacefully with others for the greater aim of individual and collective well-being of the society.

“Peace education aims at equipping students with the necessary knowledge, attitude, and skills so that they would acknowledge and respect diversity, culture, and one another and understand human dignity.

“Peace-oriented education system and curriculum
Set up peace clubs in schools Education policies and legislation that support peace education to achieve full integration into formal school settings.

“Engage young people in the process Foster critical thinking and reflection Build leadership and conflict-resolution skills Promote tolerance and empathy Active participation in civic life Participatory and experimental learning methods Mutual respect,” he said.
