Prominent Niger Delta leader and former agitator, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, is in a closed door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House.
The purpose of the meeting is unclear, but it is believed to be part of the President’s ongoing consultations with opinion leaders from the Niger Delta region.
Last week, President Tinubu promised to halt crude oil theft in the country and has also met with former Managing Director of the NDDC, Chief Timi Alaibe, and former Director-General of NIMASA, Dr Dakuku Peterside, both key figures from the region.
During a recent meeting with security chiefs in the country last week, the president made it clear that he will not tolerate oil theft.
As part of his plans to reform our security architecture, Tinubu charged all leaders of security agencies to address Nigeria’s misfortunes in the maritime domain, specifically focusing on the issue of oil theft.
The president gave directives to crush the problem from wherever it’s coming from.
Tinubu stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to combat terrorism, insurgency, banditry, oil theft, sea robbery, piracy, and other security challenges that pose a threat to the peace of the nation.
