The Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja, FCT, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, has urged students of the University to read hard and emulate Prof. Gayatri Spivak to enable them become scholars in the future. Na’Allah, made the call during the reception and public lecture in honour of Prof. Gayatri Spivak, at the University on Tuesday. The Vice-Chancellor who described Prof. Spivak as a scholar that has explored nature of humans called on the students to embrace hard work and internship for self reliance after graduation from the institution. According to Na’Allah, UniAbuja has rolled out various innovative programmes including the Centre of Undergraduate Research and students’ mentoring scheme, among others. “All her life she has been a scholar that has explored nature of human beings and how they can come together to give a voice to the voiceless in our society. “She has fought so many fights from imperialism and pre-colonial era, at the end of the day she has achieved a lot and I brought her to the University because I want to be an example to the global age. “All you hear these days is yahoo yahoo and people want to turn millionaire overnight but here is a woman who has held on to her integrity and has theorised what is good for humanity and I want my student to be like her. “The students should read because reading seems to be scanty these days, they can go online they don’t need to have physical books, so I want them to read more and appreciate what they read,” he said. However, he added that the institution would continue to provide massive opportunities for students through its academia-industry collaboration to position them as global competitors.
